Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, known for his standout role in Watchmen, is set to headline Netflix’s series adaptation of A.J. Quinnell’s book series, Man on Fire.

Abdul-Mateen II will take on the iconic role of John Creasy, a character previously portrayed by Denzel Washington in Tony Scott’s 2004 film of the same name. Creasy is a former Special Forces mercenary who now battles intense PTSD.

According to the synopsis, Creasy is “determined to overcome his personal demons” and “sets out on a path to redemption.” However, before he can fully adjust to his new life, he is drawn back into the fray, fighting harder than ever.

In addition to his award-winning role as Watchmen’s Cal Abar, Abdul-Mateen II’s TV credits include Prime Video’s The Get Down, episodes of Black Mirror and The Handmaid’s Tale, and Marvel/Disney+’s upcoming Wonder Man series.

Steven Caple Jr., known for Creed II, will direct the first two episodes of Man on Fire, which will comprise eight episodes in total. Caple Jr. will also serve as an executive producer alongside writer/showrunner Kyle Killen, known for Fear Street.
