Enter the Grid Again: Tron: Ares Trailer Launches New Era of Digital Chaos

By Kyra Greene
After more than a decade of silence, the Tron universe is roaring back to life. Disney has officially unveiled the first trailer for Tron: Ares, the long-awaited third installment in the iconic sci-fi saga. The film marks the franchise’s return to the big screen nearly 40 years after the original Tron debuted in 1982, and 15 years since Tron: Legacy lit up theaters in 2010.
Headlining the futuristic epic is Jared Leto, who stars as Ares—a program from the digital realm sent on a mission to infiltrate the real world. The trailer teases a high-stakes collision between the virtual and the physical, kicking off with a pulse-pounding chase that sees a rogue program on the run from police. In classic Tron fashion, the scene features a light cycle slicing a cop car in half—reminding audiences just how deadly the Grid can be when it spills into reality.
Jeff Bridges also returns, lending his voice once again to Kevin Flynn, the legendary programmer and digital pioneer from the original film. Though he doesn’t appear on screen in the trailer, his presence is felt in the closing moments, as he warns Ares: “Ready? ’Cause there’s no going back.”
Joining Leto and Bridges is a powerhouse ensemble cast including Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Peters takes on the role of Julian Dillinger—a name that echoes the original franchise villain Ed Dillinger, portrayed by David Warner.
Directed with a sleek, neon-drenched visual style and promising a deeper dive into the ever-blurring lines between man and machine, Tron: Ares is set to electrify theaters on October 10. Until then, fans can catch their first glimpse of the digital mayhem in the newly released trailer.
