The ever-innovative Lin-Manuel Miranda has teamed up with Brooklyn’s own multi-talented Eisa Davis for an exciting new musical adventure. This dynamic duo is set to release a concept album titled Warriors, inspired by the cult classic 1979 film The Warriors. Adding more star power to the mix, hip-hop legend Nas serves as the executive producer, with seasoned producer Mike Elizondo at the helm.
The album, packed with a remarkable 26 tracks, promises a “star-studded cast of voices,” which the creators will reveal in the coming weeks. In a statement released to the press, Miranda and Davis expressed their enthusiasm: “We’ve spent the past three years musicalizing the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island. Along the way we’ve gotten to work with a lot of our favorite artists, and we’ll be announcing their roles on the album in the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to share these songs with you on October 18.”
The Warriors, directed by Walter Hill and based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel, tells the gritty tale of a New York street gang navigating a perilous journey from the Bronx to Coney Island after being falsely accused of murdering a powerful gang leader. The film is immortalized in pop culture, notably for David Patrick Kelly’s iconic line as Luther, “Warriors, come out to play-ay!”
Mark your calendars for October 18, when Atlantic Records will unleash Warriors—a musical exploration that promises to bring fresh life and rhythm to the classic tale.
