The Audiophile’s Answer to AirPods: Cambridge Audio Debuts Melomania A100

By DaMarko Webster

Cambridge Audio, the British sound connoisseurs trusted by audiophiles since 1968, has unveiled its most advanced true wireless earbuds to date: the Melomania A100. Designed for discerning ears, these sleek newcomers pack over 50 years of hi-fi expertise into a portable, sweat-resistant, and shockingly powerful form.

A major departure from its predecessor, the M100, the A100 swaps the stemless design for a more familiar stemmed silhouette — think AirPods, but with the sonic muscle and warmth Cambridge is known for. Engineered with custom-tuned 10mm drivers and powered by Class AB amplification (a rarity in earbuds), the A100 promises the brand’s signature audio profile: rich, detailed, and immersive, even at low volumes thanks to their proprietary DynamEQ technology.

The A100 doesn’t just sound good — it listens, too. Each bud is equipped with six microphones, powering everything from crystal-clear calls to highly effective active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes. Whether you’re zoning out on a flight or tuning into city sounds, these earbuds adapt effortlessly.

Customization is at the core. A seven-band EQ, accessible via the newly redesigned Melomania Connect app, gives users total control with six genre-specific presets and the option to craft their own. Touch controls are fully remappable, putting playback and voice assistants at your fingertips.

Connectivity gets a serious upgrade as well. With Bluetooth 5.4 and support for multi-point pairing, you can toggle between phone and laptop seamlessly. And when it comes to sound quality, the A100 plays in the big leagues — supporting LDAC, aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC for pristine, hi-res streaming via platforms like Tidal.

Battery life is no slouch either. With ANC off, the A100 offers up to 11 hours of continuous play, and up to 39 hours total with the charging case. Even with ANC on, you’ll get a solid 6.5 hours — and just 10 minutes of charging nets 3 hours of playback. All of this is wrapped in an IPX5-rated shell, making the A100 resistant to sweat, dust, and even a little rain.

Available now in black or white across Europe and Asia, the Melomania A100 retails at £119 / €139. A U.S. release is slated for later this year, priced at $149.

For those who take their playlists as seriously as their playlists, the A100s may just be the next must-have accessory.
