Nintendo and Sony Join Forces for Live-Action Adaptation of Legend of Zelda

Sony is teaming up with Nintendo to co-finance a new film, marking the long-awaited entry of the gaming giant into the live-action movie realm. The much-anticipated project is a live-action adaptation of the popular Legend of Zelda franchise. Avi Arad, renowned for his successful productions including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, is on board as a producer alongside Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.
Wes Ball, the director behind The Maze Runner, has been chosen to helm the project, bringing his creative vision to the iconic gaming universe. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle theatrical distribution while also collaborating on financing with Nintendo.
While details about the film are scarce, Deadline Hollywood reports that Derek Connolly, known for his work on Jurassic World, is penning the script. The announcement, shared in an official post to Nintendo investors, has stirred excitement among fans who have long hoped for a live-action adaptation of the beloved Legend of Zelda series.
Shigeru Miyamoto, in a tweet and cross-post today, hinted at the extensive history of the project, revealing that it has been in development in some capacity for “many years now.” As the news marks a significant step in bringing one of Nintendo’s most cherished franchises to the big screen, fans eagerly anticipate further updates on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie.
