In a bold move, Netflix is set to live-stream its upcoming sports spectacle, “The Netflix Slam,” featuring a head-to-head clash between the legendary 22-time Grand Slam men’s singles title champion Rafael Nadal and the formidable World No. 2, fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. This special one-night tennis exhibition match is slated to take place at MGM Resorts International on March 3, 2024, at noon inside the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
The event will be broadcast simultaneously for both English and Spanish-speaking audiences, adding a dynamic layer to the viewing experience. Netflix, known for its venture into live sports events, recently made waves with “The Netflix Cup,” showcasing teams of PGA Tour golfers and Formula One auto racers in Las Vegas.
Designed as strategic marketing tools, these live sports events aim to elevate Netflix’s sports docuseries portfolio, including the acclaimed “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” the golf-themed “Full Swing,” and the professional tennis-based “Break Point.” The streaming giant also boasts an array of sports-themed docuseries such as “Untold,” “Quarterback,” “Tour de France: Unchained,” and “Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team.” Upcoming series will delve into the worlds of track and field, rugby, and NASCAR.
Lance Evans, SVP of Sports and Sponsorship at MGM Resorts International, expressed high expectations for “The Netflix Slam” at Mandalay Bay, anticipating it to be one of the most entertaining events of the year.
For eager spectators, tickets to witness this showdown start at $88, with sales opening to the public on December 15 at 10 a.m. PST through www.axs.com. A pre-sale opportunity is extended to Club and Seat License members from December 12 at 10 a.m. PST to December 13 at 5 p.m. PST. Additionally, pre-sale benefits will be offered to members of MGM Rewards, AXS, and USTA on December 14 from 10 a.m. PST to 10 p.m. PST.
Behind the scenes, the production of “The Netflix Slam” will be orchestrated by Full Day Productions, a seasoned company with an impressive portfolio that includes “The Netflix Cup,” the “ESPY Awards,” the “Oscars Red Carpet Show,” and the “NFL Honors.” With such a stellar lineup, expectations are high for Netflix’s continued foray into the live sports entertainment arena.
