Insta360 Collaborates with Leica for the Launch of Ace Pro Action Camera
By Brian k. Neal
Insta360 has recently introduced a pair of advanced action cameras, challenging GoPro’s longstanding dominance in the market. The Insta360 Ace and Insta360 Ace Pro exhibit a familiar blocky design, featuring a predominantly black and red color scheme.
The Pro model, developed in collaboration with German imaging giant Leica, stands out with a sizable 1/1.3” sensor, a 5nm AI chip, and a Leica SUMMARIT lens, all packed into a compact 2.8” x 2.05” x 1.37” body. Users can capture crystal-clear 8K footage at up to 24fps and utilize the option for high-definition slow-motion recording at 240fps, catering particularly to athletes and the action sports community. The Pro model excels in super-fast PD charging, reaching 80% battery capacity in approximately 22 minutes, ensuring extended filming sessions.
The more affordable Insta360 Ace shares many features with the Pro model but lacks PD fast charging, does not incorporate a Leica lens, and includes a smaller 1/2” 48MP sensor. Notably, both cameras feature a 2.4” flip touchscreen, providing users, including vloggers, with a real-time view of their recordings. This feature opens up creative possibilities for cameras often mounted on bikes or helmets.
Insta360 seeks to distinguish itself from competitors through its commitment to AI advancements, leveraging these technologies to enhance camera performance and user creativity. Both cameras incorporate AI features such as PureVideo, an algorithm that reduces noise in low-light footage, and voice control, adding a layer of functionality uncommon in cameras of this caliber. Additionally, the brand introduces AI Warp, a novel tool in its Shot Lab lineup that transforms text prompts into dynamic in-video effects.
