Google Meet Introduces Hand-Raising Detection for Seamless Meeting Participation
By Faith Simmons
Google Meet has enhanced the ease of user participation in meetings by introducing a new AI tool for a more seamless hand-raising experience. Instead of clicking on a hand icon to express the desire to speak, participants can now employ “gesture detection.” This innovative feature allows users to physically raise their hand in front of the camera, automatically triggering the hand-raising icon.
To activate this function, users simply raise their hand in view of the camera, ensuring the entire hand is visible and away from the face and body. Once granted the opportunity to speak, the hand-raised indicator disappears from the screen, indicating that they are no longer in queue to talk.
Notably, there is no administrative control for this feature, but users can opt to try it out on their own. By default, the tool is turned off, and interested users can access it through the “More options” menu in their Google Meet settings, specifically under the “Reactions” setting.
