Eddie Murphy’s Old School Meets Keke Palmer’s Criminal Cool in “The Pickup”

By Kyra Greene
Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are a match made in mischief in the first trailer for The Pickup, a high-octane action-comedy rolling out globally on Amazon Prime Video this August.
Murphy stars as Russell, a no-nonsense armored truck driver reluctantly paired with Travis (Davidson), his unpredictable, wisecracking new partner. What starts as a routine cash pickup swerves off course when the duo is ambushed by a group of precision-level criminals. Leading the crew? Zoe (Keke Palmer), a criminal mastermind with a cool head and a complicated past—namely, a one-night stand with Travis that turns into a $60 million heist.
Things spiral fast: bullets fly, loyalties blur, and Russell’s wife (Eva Longoria) gets caught in the crossfire.
Directed by Ride Along and Barbershop helmer Tim Story, The Pickup leans hard into the buddy-comedy formula, fusing explosive set pieces with laugh-out-loud dialogue. The trailer teases a dynamic dance of chaos between Murphy’s world-weary professionalism and Davidson’s chaotic energy, all while Palmer’s Zoe steals every scene with tactical brilliance and criminal flair.
Rounding out the cast are Jack Kesy, NFL star Marshawn Lynch, WWE’s Roman Reigns, and Andrew Dice Clay, adding grit and comedy to this slick summer release.
Prime Video will premiere The Pickup worldwide on August 6, 2025, just in time for fans of smart, stylized heists and comedy-fueled collisions.
