DJI Enters the 360º Arena with Groundbreaking Osmo 360 Camera

By DaMarko Webster
DJI has officially thrown its hat into the 360º imaging ring—and in typical DJI fashion, it’s not doing things by halves. Today, the drone giant introduced the Osmo 360, its first-ever 360-degree camera, and it’s packed with hardware and design features that immediately position it as a serious contender, if not an outright leader, in immersive content creation.
At the heart of the Osmo 360 is what DJI calls a “revolutionary” 1-inch square sensor capable of capturing 8K video at 50fps—a feat no other consumer 360 camera currently matches. DJI isn’t just playing the specs game here, though. While the sensor size outpaces the popular Insta360 X5’s 1/1.28-inch offering, it’s the shape of the sensor—a perfectly square design—that the brand claims is the real game-changer. This innovation reportedly allows for 25% more sensor utilization, optimizing image capture by eliminating the dead zones common in rectangular sensors.
The result? Sharper video, enhanced HDR performance, and greater energy efficiency. DJI says the Osmo 360’s sensor, combined with its large 2.4μm pixels (double the industry standard), produces stills with more detail and less noise, especially in low light. An f/1.9 aperture and a dynamic range of 13.5 stops round out the image-capturing prowess.
But power isn’t just limited to image quality. The Osmo 360 can shoot 8K video continuously for up to 100 minutes at 30fps, making it the only camera in its class capable of such performance. Need higher frame rates? It’ll shoot 4K at 100fps, or, in its single-lens “action cam” mode, deliver 170° ultra-wide 4K footage at 120fps using its Boost Video mode.
The camera also embraces intelligent features for creators on the move. Gesture and voice control, subject tracking, and seamless switching between front and rear lenses—all without stopping the recording—are all part of the package. It’s a nimble device too, weighing in at just 183g and equipped with 105GB of built-in storage. Pair it with DJI’s Battery Extension Rod, and it can keep rolling for up to 180 minutes.
DJI is offering the Osmo 360 in multiple configurations, with the Standard Combo retailing for $549.99 USD / £409.99 GBP / €479.99 EUR. The camera is available now on DJI’s official site.
