Apple Announces More Affordable, Entry-Level Apple Pencil
By DaMarko GianCarlo
The latest Apple Pencil, designed for entry-level users, is available at a more budget-friendly retail price while maintaining its impressive attributes, including pixel-perfect accuracy, low latency, and tilt sensitivity.
Featuring a matte finish and a flat side that securely attaches to the iPad’s side through magnets for storage, this new Apple Pencil also incorporates a discreet USB-C charging port on its side. This charging feature is cleverly hidden behind a sliding cap, making it compatible with all iPad models that support USB-C charging. This compatibility includes the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini. When magnetically attached to the iPad, the Pencil enters a sleep mode to conserve its battery.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, emphasized the transformative impact of the Apple Pencil on note-taking, sketching, and illustration. He mentioned that it unlocks numerous opportunities for productivity and creativity, especially when paired with the versatility of the iPad. This combination allows users to experience the magic of digital handwriting, annotation, document markup, and more.
While the new Apple Pencil is a cost-effective choice, it doesn’t support certain advanced features present in the first and second generation Apple Pencils. These features include pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and charging, and the double-tap functionality for toggling between tools.
The new Apple Pencil is priced at $79 USD and will be available for purchase starting early November.
