Tech Startup Sightful Unveils Screenless Laptop, the Spacetop G1, Revolutionizing Spatial Computing

By DaMarko Webster

Sightful, a forward-thinking tech startup, has made a significant leap in the realm of spatial computing with the introduction of the Spacetop G1, a pioneering screenless laptop. Unlike traditional approaches in this space, which have been dominated by headsets like Apple’s Vision Pro, Sightful’s innovative device pairs seamlessly with augmented reality (AR) glasses.

The Vision Pro and similar headsets often face criticism for their bulkiness and discomfort during prolonged use. Sightful addresses this issue by integrating their screenless computer with custom-designed AR glasses created in collaboration with Xreal.

When worn, these glasses enable the Spacetop to project a 100-inch (2,540 mm) virtual screen, offering a unique solution tailored for the “work from anywhere” ethos. This device boasts advanced AI technology and operates on Sightful’s proprietary SpaceOS.

Sightful’s CEO, Tamir Berliner, shared the company’s vision: “We introduced Spacetop to free people from the constraints of time and space, as we don’t believe people should be stuck in 14” screens. We firmly believe in the power of AR glasses as the first step. Physical reality has always been the limiting factor – bulky, uncomfortable headsets, limited battery and processing power, and a world that is not yet built for daily AR.”

Following an invite-only early access program, Sightful fine-tuned the Spacetop’s hardware and software based on user feedback. The final version features an 8-hour battery life and a processing chip that is 70% faster than earlier models.

The Spacetop G1, priced at $1,900, is now available for reservation on Sightful’s website. The first batch is slated for shipment in October 2024.
