HyAxiom Unveils Groundbreaking Green Hydrogen Solutions for the First Time, Featuring High-Efficiency PEM Electrolyzer and Premier PureCell® Model 400 Fuel Cell
By DaMarko Webster
In a groundbreaking revelation, HyAxiom’s CEO, Jeff Hyung Rak Chung, and Chief Commercial Officer, David Alonso, recently disclosed the ambitious plans that position the company as a global leader in integrated hydrogen (H2) solutions. The unveiling shed light on HyAxiom’s strategic roadmap, capitalizing on the burgeoning acknowledgment of hydrogen as a pivotal next-generation energy source capable of achieving zero carbon emissions.
At the core of HyAxiom’s forward-looking strategy lies the Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer, or PEM Electrolyzer. This cutting-edge system revolutionizes hydrogen generation through a meticulous electrolysis process, leveraging clean electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting high-purity hydrogen exhibits remarkable versatility, finding applications across various industries, and its load-following capability seamlessly integrates with intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Notably, with an impressive efficiency rate of 75%, the PEM Electrolyzer stands out as one of the market’s most efficient offerings in its category.
Notably, HyAxiom is showcasing the PureCell® Model 400, the sole commercially available fuel cell operating successfully on 100% hydrogen. This innovative technology caters to industrial customers by generating clean electricity and heat for various processes, effectively reducing carbon emissions and ensuring reliable, off-grid power. The PureCell® M400 also serves as an efficient base load solution, capable of replacing traditional power sources to provide clean electricity and heat for large residential complexes and city centers.
HyAxiom’s PEM Electrolyzer boasts scalability, allowing installations ranging from 1 MW to over 100 MW without the need for substantial design modifications. This scalability feature, coupled with advanced monitoring capabilities, data analytics, and series connection of stacks, collectively contribute to cost minimization, reinforcing the company’s commitment to economic viability.
As the current flagship product, HyAxiom’s stationary fuel cells are set to introduce a highly competitive electrolyzer to the market on a significant scale within an impressively short timeframe. The hydrogen produced through this electrolysis technology serves a myriad of applications, including fueling buses and trucks, generating power and heat, and acting as feedstock across diverse industries. This concerted effort aligns with global initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to a carbon-free future, the Doosan Group, HyAxiom’s parent company, commissioned the world’s first large-scale fuel cell plant powered entirely by hydrogen in July 2020. Situated in Korea, this 50 MW hydrogen fuel cell plant, comprised of 114 units, produces over 420 GWh of electricity annually.
In addition to these groundbreaking developments, HyAxiom is set to present its maritime solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), specifically designed to assist long-haul vessels in meeting stringent emissions requirements, while simultaneously enhancing durability and reducing maintenance costs.
Jeff Hyung Rak Chung emphasizes HyAxiom’s pioneering spirit, inviting the world to join them at the forefront of the hydrogen revolution. With a legacy spanning more than 60 years of innovative contributions, from fuel cells powering the Apollo space missions to groundbreaking solutions shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future, HyAxiom remains steadfast in accelerating decarbonization. Chung extends an invitation to witness firsthand the strides the company is making toward a greener tomorrow.
