Samsung Unveils Enhanced Medications Tracking Feature in Samsung Health App
By DaMarko Webster
Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new feature for its Samsung Health app, designed to enhance users’ health management. The Medications tracking feature, integrated into the app, enables users to easily monitor both prescribed and over-the-counter medications. It not only provides essential information and tips about these medications but also proves beneficial for those adhering to regular medication routines and individuals taking supplements for overall well-being.
Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the holistic approach of Samsung Health. He stated, “Samsung Health aims to help people better understand and manage their health through a holistic platform by connecting devices, services, and people.” The addition of the Medications tracking feature is expected to facilitate more convenient medication management, improve adherence, and contribute to overall health maintenance.
Upon inputting a medication’s name into Samsung Health, users gain access to detailed information, including general descriptions and potential side effects. The feature also warns users about adverse reactions due to drug interactions or consumption alongside specific foods and substances like caffeine and alcohol. For instance, if a user is taking Simvastatin, the app will highlight the potential serious side effects when combined with grapefruit juice. Users can log the shape and color of their medications for easy identification, and details such as dosage and consumption time can be added to prevent confusion.
The Medications feature allows users to set up personalized alerts for medication intake and refill reminders. These alerts vary in intensity, with the app prioritizing medications based on importance. Users can receive reminders ranging from “gentle” to “strong,” depending on the urgency of a prescription. Critical medications trigger a “strong” reminder, displaying a full-screen alert with a long tone. In contrast, supplements like vitamins prompt a non-disruptive pop-up reminder. Galaxy Watch users receive wrist notifications, ensuring they stay on top of their medication schedules even when away from their phones.
Samsung Health already offers a range of advanced health features, covering sleep management, mindfulness programs, and irregular heart rhythm detection. With the introduction of the Medications tracking feature, Samsung Health provides a comprehensive wellness experience, aiding users in maintaining healthier lifestyles while effectively managing their medication regimens.
The Medications tracking feature will be initially available on the Samsung Health app in the U.S. through upcoming app updates later this week.
