Apple Releases New Beta Firmware Across Its AirPods Lineup

By Brian K. Neal
Apple released new beta firmware for several AirPods models on October 13, extending the software update across much of its wireless audio lineup.
The update, identified as build 9B5043a, is available to developers and public beta testers using AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, AirPods 5, and AirPods Max 2. Supported variants include models with different charging cases and connectivity options.
Apple has not provided release notes detailing the changes, leaving it unclear whether the firmware introduces new features, performance improvements, or bug fixes.
Eligible users can enable beta firmware through their AirPods settings on a compatible iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Installation occurs automatically when the headphones meet the required connection and charging conditions.
The firmware remains a beta release rather than a general software update for all AirPods owners.
