Instagram Introduces Replace Audio, Letting Creators Update Music on Published Posts

The new feature lets creators change the soundtrack on existing posts without deleting them or losing their engagement.

Instagram has introduced Replace Audio, a new editing feature that allows creators to update the music on previously published feed posts and carousel posts. Instead of deleting a post and uploading it again, creators can now swap its soundtrack while preserving the likes, comments, shares, and other engagement the post has already earned.

The feature is available through Instagram’s editing tools, where creators can select a new song from the platform’s licensed music library and apply it to an existing post. Replace Audio also offers a practical solution for creators whose original music may no longer be available because of licensing changes or for those who simply want to refresh older content with a different soundtrack.

Importantly, Instagram says replacing a post’s audio does not provide additional distribution or increase a post’s visibility in the algorithm. The update is designed to give creators greater flexibility over content that has already been published rather than creating a new method for boosting reach.

Replace Audio continues Instagram’s investment in post-publication editing tools, giving creators more control over how their content evolves after it goes live. Rather than forcing users to choose between preserving engagement and updating a post, the feature allows both, making it easier to maintain existing content without starting over.

The feature is rolling out globally beginning this week for eligible Instagram users, adding another editing option for creators managing their content long after the publish button has been pressed.
