X Is Launching a Standalone Messaging App for iOS

By Lance Winters
X Corp. is rolling out XChat, a new standalone messaging app designed for private, direct communication.
The move is simple: take messaging out of the main app and give it its own space.
XChat is fully end-to-end encrypted, ad-free, and built without invasive tracking. The experience is stripped down—no feed, no distractions, just conversation. Users can log in with their existing X credentials, so there’s no need to rebuild contacts or verify with a phone number.
The app is currently available for pre-order on iOS, with a release expected April 24. It supports over 45 languages and is built for newer Apple operating systems, signaling a push toward a more modern, global rollout.
Instead of competing on features, X is leaning into simplicity and privacy. Messaging becomes the product—not an extension of the feed.
It also keeps users inside the ecosystem. You don’t leave X to talk—you just move into a different room.
As more platforms shift toward private communication, XChat positions itself as a focused alternative: fast, secure, and built for people who want conversation without the noise.
