The Future of Sports Animation Arrives with GOAT—And Stephen Curry Is Running Point

By Kyra Greene

Sony Pictures Animation just released the first trailer for GOAT, a high-energy, animated sports action-comedy that blends pure pop style with the emotional punch of an underdog story. From the studio behind the visually groundbreaking Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the bold creativity of KPop Demon Hunters, GOAT steps into the arena with a world built entirely from animals, hype, grit, and heart.

Led by NBA superstar Stephen Curry—who not only stars in the film but also serves as producer through his Unanimous Media banner—GOAT centers on Will, a small-statured goat with giant dreams. Voiced by Stranger Things standout Caleb McLaughlin, Will enters the brutal and wildly entertaining pro circuit of roarball: a fictional, co-ed, full-contact sport where only the biggest and toughest typically survive. But Will? He’s on a mission to shatter expectations and rewrite the rulebook—proving, in the film’s defining mantra, that “smalls can ball.”

Curry makes his major voice-acting debut as Lenny Williamson, Will’s long-limbed, supportive giraffe teammate, marking a playful departure for the NBA champion. The stacked ensemble also features Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, Jenifer Lewis, Nicola Coughlan, Nick Kroll, and Jennifer Hudson—each adding their own spark to the film’s vibrant, character-driven spectacle. With direction by Tyree Dillihay and narrative consulting from former NBA star Andre Iguodala, GOAT brings together authentic sports insight, layered comedy, and kinetic action sequences crafted with Spider-Verse-level artistry.

Stylish, loud, and full of momentum, GOAT is poised to cut through the animated landscape with a refreshing blend of athletic intensity and pop-culture energy. Sony Pictures Animation will release the film in theaters on February 13, 2026—perfectly timed to give Valentine’s Day weekend a shot of adrenaline.
