Moonstar Ascends: Marvel Gives Dani Moonstar Her First Solo Spotlight

By Kyra Greene
Marvel is stepping boldly into its next era with a moment longtime fans have been waiting decades to witness: Danielle “Dani” Moonstar—New Mutant, Valkyrie, leader, and one of the Marvel Universe’s most emotionally rich heroes—is officially headlining her first-ever solo comic series. Arriving this March as part of Marvel’s forthcoming Shadows of Tomorrow initiative, the five-issue series marks a historic first for a character whose legacy has shaped mutant storytelling for generations.
Written by acclaimed storyteller Ashley Allen with art by rising star Edoardo Audino, Moonstar promises to explore Dani with unprecedented depth—honoring the past while charging headfirst into a new mutant future. For Allen, this series isn’t just another entry in the X-canon; it’s a long-overdue elevation of a character who has earned her place at the center of the narrative.
“I’m so excited to be returning to tell the next chapter of Dani’s story!” Allen said. “She has been such a monumental character in both the Marvel Universe and in people’s lives – exemplifying what it means to be a true leader. I can’t believe this is the character’s first-ever solo series and I can’t wait to show readers what adventure we have in store for Dani!”

That sense of purpose echoes throughout the creative direction of Shadows of Tomorrow, a reinvention of the X-Men line that prioritizes character, emotion, and the cultural weight of mutant identity. And Dani Moonstar—whose powers draw directly from people’s deepest fears, desires, and internal truths—feels perfectly positioned to lead the charge. Her story has always been rooted in empathy, resilience, and a fierce sense of responsibility. Now, at last, she has the full stage.
For artist Edoardo Audino, stepping into Moonstar’s world offers both excitement and creative freedom.
“Working on the first-ever Dani Moonstar solo series feels great, especially after reading the MAGIK run written by Ashley,” Audino shared. “In this story there’s everything I want as a reader—magic, fighting, even a little bit of romance—so getting to draw it is super fun! And on top of that, I got to do one of my favorite things in comics: designing a brand new villain!”
That tease alone signals the tone of the series: bold, mystical, emotional, and anchored in the kind of mythic energy that has always followed Dani, whether she’s wielding psionic illusions or carrying the mantle of a Valkyrie. Her journey is steeped in legacy but poised for reinvention—exactly the kind of storytelling the Shadows of Tomorrow era aims to deliver.
For longtime fans, Moonstar feels overdue. For new readers, it’s the perfect entry point into one of Marvel’s most important Indigenous heroines. And for the broader pop-culture moment—where representation, character-driven storytelling, and grounded heroism continue to shape the future—Dani Moonstar’s ascension couldn’t be more timely.
As Marvel redefines what the next chapter of mutant storytelling looks like, Dani Moonstar isn’t just part of the future. She’s helping shape it.
