Tom Hardy Fights Through Chaos in Explosive New Trailer for Netflix’s Havoc

By Kyra Greene

Netflix is cranking up the intensity this month with the official trailer drop for Havoc, the gritty new thriller from action maestro Gareth Evans — and yes, it stars none other than Tom Hardy. The film, set to premiere on April 25, marks the first team-up between Evans and Hardy, a pairing fans have been buzzing about since the project was first announced back in 2021.

In Havoc, Hardy steps into the battered boots of Walker, a tough-as-nails homicide detective who’s plunged into the city’s criminal underworld after a botched drug deal sets off a violent chain of events. As rival factions close in — from a ruthless crime syndicate to shady politicians and corrupt cops — Walker must navigate a web of deceit, all while trying to save a politician’s estranged son and confront the personal demons that continue to haunt him.

Described by Evans as a “love letter to the heroic bloodshed genre” — a nod to the stylized, emotionally charged action flicks that dominated Hong Kong cinema in the ’80s and ’90s — Havoc promises all the gritty drama and kinetic action fans have come to expect from the Raid director.

The cast is stacked, too. Alongside Hardy, Havoc features performances from Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, Justin Cornwell, Luis Guzmán, and Quelin Sepulveda, among others.

In a recent chat with Empire, Evans revealed that Hardy’s character is “morally compromised” and just trying to get through the holidays. “Two days before Christmas, he’s trying to buy presents for his daughter and reconcile with her,” Evans said. But don’t let the seasonal sentiment fool you — this film is anything but warm and fuzzy. “There was an intent with the design of the trailer to let people know this will get quite gnarly in places,” Evans explained, referring to a chaotic fight sequence that kicked off their very first day of production. “It was a baptism of fire.”

With a dark, pulse-pounding vibe and Hardy in full gritty antihero mode, Havoc looks like it’ll deliver the kind of high-stakes chaos action fans crave.

Mark your calendars: Havoc hits Netflix on April 25.
