Opera Expands Access to Aria AI Assistant: Now Available Without Log-In for Desktop, Gaming, and Android Users

By Brian Neal

Norwegian browser company Opera has announced that its AI-powered assistant, Aria, is now accessible to all desktop and gaming users, as well as those using the Android beta version of Opera, without requiring a log-in. Previously, accessing Aria’s features, such as Image Generation, Image Understanding, and Page Context mode, required users to sign in with an Opera account. This shift opens the door for a broader audience to explore Aria’s full range of capabilities.

“We believe AI should be accessible to everyone, and removing the log-in requirement simplifies that process,” said Krystian Kolondra, EVP of Browsers and Gaming at Opera.

Aria can now be used without an account on Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera for Android Beta. Over the coming weeks, the feature will also roll out to Opera for Android and Opera for iOS, broadening its reach across platforms.

Enhancing Browsing with AI

Since Aria’s launch in 2023, Opera has continued to refine its AI-driven tools. Recognizing the potential of large language models (LLMs) to enhance everyday browsing, Opera introduced the “AI Feature Drops” initiative. This program allows developers to experiment with new AI functionalities, like enabling local LLM downloads and implementing a Writing Mode to assist users in refining their content.

Many of these experimental features, including Image Generation, Image Understanding, and Page Context mode, have been fully integrated into the main version of Opera One. Now, users can access these cutting-edge tools seamlessly.

Aria’s capabilities are powered by Opera’s AI Composer engine, which dynamically selects the most appropriate model—whether GPT or Gemini—based on the user’s query. Additionally, Opera has invested in a green-energy-powered AI data center in Iceland, ranked among the top 100 supercomputers globally, to support its AI projects. This ensures that Opera delivers innovative AI solutions sustainably and efficiently to its users.
