GameSir Unveils the G8+ Galileo: A High-Tech Leap in Mobile Gaming Controllers
By DaMarko Webster
GameSir has just rolled out the G8+ Galileo, an upgraded successor to its wildly popular G8 mobile gaming controller, delivering enhanced features that cater to the demands of modern gamers. Unlike its predecessor, which relied on a USB-C connection, the G8+ is fully wireless, connecting seamlessly via Bluetooth, and extending its compatibility across a broader range of devices.
The G8+ sports a sleek black design, giving it a contemporary edge over the G8’s retro aesthetic, inspired by Nintendo’s classic greys and purples. GameSir has retained the best aspects of the G8, including the highly responsive Hall Effect joysticks and ergonomic design, which made it a favorite among gamers. However, the G8+ introduces several new features that set it apart, most notably a six-axis gyroscope for motion control compatibility with devices like the Nintendo Switch, and brand-new rumble motors that deliver a more immersive gaming experience.
Transitioning to a Bluetooth connection necessitated the integration of a 500 mAh battery on each side of the controller, bringing the total battery capacity to 1000 mAh. While the added batteries contribute to a slight increase in weight (0.69 lbs / 313 g compared to the G8’s 0.55 lbs / 249 g), the difference is minimal and should not hinder most users.
The G8+ maintains the durable ABXY face buttons, rated for five million clicks, and features analog L and R triggers that are both comfortable and responsive. Additionally, GameSir has included two customizable buttons on the back of the controller, which can be configured using the GameSir app. This app also allows gamers to create custom profiles, fine-tune trigger sensitivity, and adjust joystick deadzones to their liking.
One of the standout improvements in the G8+ is its ability to accommodate wider devices, supporting widths up to 215 mm, compared to the G8’s maximum of 185 mm. This expansion in size allows the G8+ to support the Nintendo Switch and smaller tablets, a limitation of the G8 due to its narrower width and the obstructive USB-C connector.
Customization enthusiasts will appreciate that the G8+ retains the magnetic, swappable faceplates feature from the G8. While GameSir hadn’t previously offered separate faceplates for purchase, the brand has highlighted this feature in its latest press release, suggesting that customizable faceplates will soon be available—stay tuned for updates on that front.
With its upgraded features and broader device compatibility, the G8+ Galileo positions itself as a must-have controller for serious mobile gamers looking to elevate their gaming experience.
