By Damarko Webster
Twenty years after the revolutionary launch of the RAZR V3, Motorola continues to uphold its iconic legacy while pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology with each new iteration. The 2024 Motorola razr family exemplifies this commitment to evolution and excellence, introducing the Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ and the Motorola razr 50/razr. These stylish, pocket-sized smartphones bring the power of AI into more users’ hands.
Both models feature expansive external displays. The Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ boasts the industry’s largest at 4.0 inches, while the Motorola razr 50/razr offers a 3.6-inch display. For the first time, razr users can access Google’s Gemini app directly from their external display. By pressing and holding the power button, users can bring up Gemini for assistance with tasks like planning road trip itineraries, creating personalized workout routines, and finding recipes based on what’s in the fridge. Additionally, razr users will receive three months of Gemini Advanced at no extra cost, offering access to Google’s most advanced AI models, 2 TB of cloud storage, and integration with apps like Gmail and Docs under the Google One AI Premium plan.
The external display also includes access to Google Photos, allowing users to share, view, delete, or favorite images and videos instantly. A dedicated Spotify panel lets users skip songs, and a Bose panel offers easy control over Bose earbuds and headphones. For a personalized touch, Motorola offers a new suite of clock faces and customization options for the external display. Users can rotate text and images on their Desk Display or use moto AI experiences like Style Sync, which creates wallpaper options based on their outfit, and Magic Canvas, which generates stunning images from text prompts.
Design-wise, the new razr devices are bold and beautiful, featuring vibrant colors, soft vegan leather finishes, and contoured edges. The Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ comes in Midnight Blue, Spring Green, and Pantone’s Color of the Year 2024, Peach Fuzz. The iconic Hot Pink razr is also back, adding a touch of “newstalgia.” Meanwhile, the Motorola razr 50/razr is available in Beach Sand, Koala Grey, and Spritz Orange in vegan leather.
Built to withstand adventures, these devices feature Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for drop and scratch protection, underwater protection for up to 30 minutes at 1.5 meters, and a simplified hinge for better dust protection. The revamped hinge also makes it easier to flick open or snap shut with one hand. The razr’s 6.9-inch pOLED display supports various Flex View positions, allowing for hands-free capture of photos or videos, perfect for social media. The Photo Booth feature on both the external and internal cameras stitches together four photos into a ready-to-share collage.
The Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ boasts Motorola’s best razr camera technology yet, featuring a 50MP high-res main camera with moto AI capabilities and Google Photos AI-powered editing. The 50MP telephoto lens offers 2x optical zoom for stunning portraits, while AI-powered features like the Photo Enhancement Engine, Adaptive Stabilization, Action Shot, Long Exposure, and Super Zoom ensure optimal image quality in various scenarios. The Motorola razr 50/razr offers a 50MP camera system with a 13MP ultra-wide/Macro Vision lens, ideal for artistic shots.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform, the Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ delivers accelerated AI performance, unparalleled connectivity, fast gameplay, and superior content capture. New texting features in Google Messages include Magic Compose, which suggests responses in various styles, and Photomoji, which turns photos into personalized emojis or stickers.
The Motorola razr 50 ultra/razr+ comes with a 4000mAh battery, supporting 5W reverse and 15W wireless charging. The Motorola razr 50/razr features a 4200mAh battery with 30W TurboPower and 15W wireless charging, powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor for better power efficiency and enhanced AI tasks.
Motorola is also expanding the Moto ecosystem with new accessories like the moto tag, a small Bluetooth LE tag with Ultra Wideband technology to help locate valuables through Google’s Find My Device network. The Hello UX software platform offers extensive personalization, advanced ecosystem connectivity, a safe environment for kids, and comprehensive security settings. Upcoming moto AI capabilities will provide users with prioritized summaries of communications, instant transcription of conversations, and AI-assisted information capture and recall.
With the new Motorola razr family, Motorola continues to lead in innovation, blending cutting-edge technology with timeless design.
